Record Creation/Editing Options

Which call number scheme do you use? (LC, Dewey, NLM, etc.) (for original cataloging, LCS will place LC call numbers in 050 and Dewey numbers in 082 instead of 090 and 092, unless otherwise requested)


If you use LC classification, is it required that all call numbers be placed in 050 instead of 090, or vice versa? If so, do you want us to move existing LC call numbers in existing records from 050 to 090 or vice versa, if applicable?


If you use LC classification, do you want series call numbers if they are established in the LC series authority record?


If you use Dewey, is it required that all call numbers be placed in 082 instead of 092, or vice versa?  


If so, do you want us to move existing Dewey numbers in existing records from 082 to 092 or vice versa, if applicable?

Would you like LCS to upgrade copy records to full level? (LCS will find a matching record, ensure that all existing access points are relevant, edit all non-filing indicators and any fill characters as necessary, correct any typographical errors, and ensure that the fixed field values correctly reflect the information in the body of the record, but will otherwise accept a matching record as is unless upgrades are requested/purchased)


Would you like LCS to do original cataloging according to RDA? If yes, do you want LCS to upgrade copy records to RDA standards?

How do you want LCS to handle serials? If we encounter a single issue of a serial with a distinctive title, should we catalog it as a monograph? As a serial? How would you like LCS to deliver your records? (.dat files, .mrc files, list of save file numbers, etc.)

How will you ship items to LCS? (FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc.) - LCS will return items via Federal Express unless otherwise requested.


Will you be shipping actual items, or will you be sending surrogates (photocopies, etc.) instead? If shipping surrogates, please specify whether they will be scans or whether they will be photocopies.


For return shipments, LCS requests all shipping notifications from Federal Express (ship, tendered, exceptions, delivery). Do you want LCS to request that these notifications be emailed to you? Do you want tracking numbers emailed to you?
